It’s just gotten a little bit easier for Fairfield County residents to buy locally and sustainably grown and produced food in the middle of the winter. Starting Tuesday, February 3, Whole Foods Market, Westport will sponsor an indoor farmers’ market from 10 am until 2 pm. The market includes about ten farmers right now, but is likely to grow, and will run every Tuesday through the end of April. That brings to two the number of indoor winter farmers’ markets available to area consumers. The winter farmes’ market held indoors at the Fairfield Theater Company in downtown Fairfield every Saturday from 10 am until 2 pm has been running since November.
Elly Truesdell, Marketing Team Leader at Whole Foods Market, Westport said the winter farmers’ market “has been a goal of Store Team Leader Carolyn Falco for a while.” Elly recently joined the staff and helped Carolyn make the market a reality. “Our Winter Farmers’ Market is a great way to put customers in contact with artisans, to ask questions, hear more about the production process and appreciate their hard work. Our goal is to get all of these local items on our shelves, but in the meantime, we’re letting people sample them from the hands that made them!” says Carolyn Falco.
According to Elly, “products will include homemade granola, winter greens, herbs, honey, cheeses, natural body care, vegan & gluten-free baked goods, relishes, jams, sauces, breads and eggs.” Hit the ATM before you go. Payment is made in cash directly to the vendors, who will be set up in the cafe area.
