Southport Has a New Farm: The Double L
You may have heard that The Double L Farmstand located at 3611 Post Road, Southport, just off the Westport border, was closed or closing. Or you might have seen a “Gone Swimming” sign on the door and wondered what was up. Well, here’s the story.
They were closed temporarily, but they got creative and arranged to be declared a farm by the CT State Dept. of Agriculture! Did you know they had a farm out back growing more than 20 crops? So the Double L has reopened to do business as a farm under a white tent out front, just like the ones you see at all the farmers’ markets. The day I visited it was stacked high with peaches – truly a magnet for passing motorists. I think they should start selling bumper stickers that say “I break for peaches”.
Wonder what’s growing out back? Check out this list. I asked for eggplant after eyeing the goods and Michael hand picked some Italian, Chinese and Biancas for me and they were amazing grilled with a miso glaze. Comment if you want the recipe.
The Double L “Farm’s” current crops:
- sugar babies
- onions
- eggplants
- dandelionsbeets
- swiss chard
- green and red peppers

- cucumbers
- cantaloupe
- variety of herbs
