A Beloved Farm Stand Reinvented: The Double L Market
The Double L, Fairfield’s most eclectic farm stand, has been providing area residents with fresh, delicious, local and organic vegetables and fruits for many years. Much of it has been from our neighbors’ own backyards. When it became clear that the market would not return to last year’s location, fans no doubt wondered whether the market would resurface and whether we’d ever eat a peach as good as last year’s. Ditto for the late season strawberries.

Owner Lloyd Allen is renowned for tracking down fruit and produce so fresh and packed with flavor that locals have made The Double L a destination.
Happily, the seasonal farm stand has been reinvented into The Double L Market, a brick and mortar store located at 730 Post Road E. in Westport, just across the street from the Toyota dealership and in the same shopping plaza as Flower Fall. Open 7 days a week from 9-6, the market promises to be just as chock full of fantastic tasting fruits and vegetables, especially organic and local and regional specialties of the season.
Owner Lloyd Allen promises to open this Memorial Day weekend with organic strawberries, lots of local greens, asparagus, plump and juicy Bing cherries, ripe southern peaches, Texas watermelon and corn that’s fresh-picked in Georgia, iced and driven all night straight to Connecticut. Lloyd has been sourcing organic, heirloom tomatoes from the same Maryland grower for 15 years and will have ripe and ready to eat gold, orange, yellow, beefsteak and mixed cherry tomatoes for the opening.
The Double L Market, 730 Post Road E., Westport. Open 7 days a week from 9-6. 203-984-9165.

Thanks for the link. I got the most amazing produce from the stand today with lots of personal attention.
Gini, I’m very happy to hear about your positive experience at The Double L. I’m headed there tomorrow myself for some food for a Memorial Day barbecue.
The freshest most fun place to food shop! It’s become a new habit of mine, to swing through and pick up amazing kale from his brother’s farm, amazing salad greens and herbs, and the freshest seafood. I’m even enjoying taking some short cuts with a few locally prepared items! Always more than helpful and – it just feels good to shop here!
