Whole Foods Market® Celebrates Grand Re-Opening in Westport, CT
Celebration Includes 5% Day for Connecticut Food Bank Open to All Area Residents Offering an Early Taste of Thanksgiving
(Westport, CT – November 3, 2010) – Whole Foods Market (NASDAQ: WFMI), the world’s leading natural and organic foods supermarket and America’s first national certified organic grocer, will be hosting a grand re-opening celebration on Wednesday, November 10th from 4:00pm-8:00pm at the newly renovated store located at 399 Post Road West in Westport. To celebrate, Whole Foods Market will offer a storewide holiday tastings, turkey carving demonstrations, door prizes, and live music from local singer/songwriter Bern McWain. 5% of the total sales for the day will be donated to The Connecticut Food Bank, a local nonprofit organization that works with corporations, community organizations and individuals to solicit, transport, warehouse and distribute donated food to those in need throughout the area.
At more than 48,000 square-feet, the newly remodeled Westport store has a variety of improvements that shoppers can find throughout the aisles. In line with the company’s increased focus on healthy eating, the newly remodeled store will include a Healthy Eating Center staffed by an in-store specialist, Debera Prosek, who will host a variety of classes, demos and educational programs to assist interested shoppers in leading a healthier lifestyle.
The newly renovated prepared food department now includes a pizza station featuring seasonally inspired pizzas as well as fresh made meatball sandwiches. In addition to the new pizza station, there is a dedicated vegan, no-oil, salad bar that is compliant with our Health Starts Here program. Other hot bar and salad bar options include a variety of Italian and Indian Fare as well as variety of cold composed salads. All prepared foods items can now be enjoyed in the new and improved café seating area.
From ready-made meals to quality pantry staples from the Whole Foods Market 365 Everyday ValueTM and 365 Organic Everyday ValueTM lines, the newly remodeled Westport location will provide shoppers with high quality products at cost-conscious prices. The indulgent bakery department will offer customers baked goods for all hosting and dining needs, including a new self serve case of fresh-baked breads and muffins, cakes, pies and pretzels, as well as a variety of gluten-free baked options. The bakery also now features a new Brownies & Bars case.
In line with Whole Foods Market’s commitment to strict animal welfare quality standards, the meat department provides shoppers the highest quality meat free of antibiotics and added hormones, including locally sourced options from farms in the northeast. The new seafood department offers guaranteed fresh seafood that is bought directly, handled correctly and delivered quickly from our company’s docks at Pigeon Cove in Gloucester, MA and now includes a selection of smoked items including salmon, lox, whole whitefish and fresh salmon pinwheels. The department also offers local oysters and clams sourced just miles from the store by Westport Aquaculture.
Keeping with Whole Foods Market’s commitment to the environment the store’s foyer will house a Green Mission recycling center for customers to recycle plastic bottles, glass and cans in the store.
Dedicated to pampering and caring for the body, the Whole Body department will be lined with luxurious personal care and beauty items made from the best natural and organic ingredients along with nutritional supplements, herbal remedies and top-of-the-line baby care items. The newly renovated Whole Body department includes an assortment of bulk soaps and bath salts.
