Tour des Farms Cycles Through New Haven County Farms

The summer is coming to an end and it’s time to check a few more things off your “must do this summer” list. Family outing? Farm visits? Live music? CT Folk’s Tour des Farms offers it all during an organized bike tour with scheduled stops to discover local food sources, hidden green spaces and local musicians. The Tour is appropriate for most riders over the age of twelve.

CT Folk’s Tour des Farms: Cycling to Discover Local Food and Local Music

CT Folk has announced the third annual Tour des Farms on Saturday, August 20. Starting at Treat Farm in Orange at 9:00 am, the Tour will take cyclists to local farms, gardens, and other agricultural treasures along the 25-mile route. At each stop along the road, riders will be entertained by a Connecticut-grown musician. Stops include:  Massaro Community Farm, Savino Vineyards, Field View Farm and the Ansonia Nature Center.

Massaro Community Farm will be grilling made to order pizzas using produce fresh from the farm so there’s no need to pack a lunch. New England Brewing Co. will be serving samples of their refreshing beers. Visitors can learn while they eat as workshops are also being offered all day for those who might like a taste of farm life. Beekeeping, basics of keeping backyard chickens, invasive species and a pickling demonstration are all on the menu. Click here to learn more about the workshops.

Bring your cooler for the ride home because farm stands will be open. For your convenience, fresh produce that cyclists have purchased from any farm during the day will be transported by volunteers back to the Tour’s ending point and kept on ice until the end of the day.

CT Folk has programmed an exciting line up of independent singer-songwriters from across the state. Artists will entertain riders at each farm stop with their unique blend of contemporary folk & roots music. At the Tour’s end, riders and non-riders alike are invited to an outdoor concert at Treat Farm at 1:15.

Treat Farm in Orange is the starting and ending point of the tour.
