Indulge this Valentine’s Day in a single-origin honey, extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar pairing and tasting hosted by Olivette co-owner and General Manager Alina Lawrence and Honey Sommelier Marina Marchese, founder of Red Bee Honey and the Author of HONEYBEE: Lessons from an Accidental Beekeeper.

This educational tasting and pairing event will be held at Olivette, Darien, CT’s newest artisan food shop and tasting room, offering over 20 varieties of first cold press unfiltered extra virgin olive oil and over 20 varieties of balsamic vinegar. Red Bee Honey, located in Weston, CT, specializes in single-origin artisanal honeys – the essence of each varietal is determined by the nectar from the flowers visited by the honeybees.

Marina Marchese, at a workshop at Red Bee Apiary & Gardens, describes how the frames are removed from the hive and the comb hand cut for farmhouse honeycomb.

Participants will learn how to marry the unique flavors of single-origin Red Bee honeys with extra virgin olive oils and balsamic vinegars from Olivette to create harmonious blends that can be used to flavor delightfully decadent desserts or to add depth to simple, healthful meals. Combinations such as Apple Blossom Honey and Cranberry/Pear White Balsamic Vinegar will complement tasting plates of breads, cheeses, and Valentine’s Day treats. Dessert: Cacao truffle with blood orange infused EVOO and buckwheat honey

Accompaniments: Brie and goat cheese, local bread, crackers and nuts
