We’re in the home stretch. We have our fingers crossed that HB 5117 will be called later this week and I hope you can support it at this critically important time. HB 5117, if enacted, would mandate the labeling of GE foods in the state of Connecticut. We would be the first state to pass such a labeling law as Vermont’s is expected to die in to committee.
Yesterday, Right to Know CT launched a petition asking House and Senate leadership and Governor Malloy to enact HB 5117 and we have 350 signatures already! Please sign the petition and share it via email, Facebook, Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn, etc. so we can gather as many signatures as possible from anywhere in the country. http://www.change.org/petitions/the-governor-of-ct-support-right-to-know-ct-and-gmo-labeling-enact-hb-5117-into-law
We plan to hand the bill in to the Legislature after this rally on Friday.
Rally at the Capitol!
Right to Know CT will rally at the Capitol on Friday, May 4, from 11:30-1:00 pm, after which we will hand deliver the Right to Know petition to the Legislature. Please RSVP to email@example.com with the size of your group as we must contact Capitol Police to tell them our total group size. We were advised to hold the rally on the north side of the state Capitol building that overlooks the park, so let’s meet there. Come anytime from 11:30-1:00. Please prepare a sign or banner to help promote our mission: to get HB 5117 passed to mandate GMO labeling in our state. Please note: this is a pro-GMO labeling event, not a Non-GMO event, so please keeping signage on message. Right to Know CT leaders Analiese Paik, Tara Cook-Littman, Bill Duesing, and Bob Burns will each make brief statements at the rally so passers-by and the media will hear the many reasons why GMO labeling is important for CT consumers. Please email me for the Right to Know CT logo that you can use in your signage. You may also use our ad as a poster (the psd file allows you to edit it in PhotoShop). We recommend packing lunch and drinks.
Please invite your friends to join us at the rally, but please let us know the size of your group so we can inform Capitol Police of our numbers.
Please contact me with any questions. Our Twitter handle is @RighttoKnowCT and our hash tag is #RighttoKnowCT.

Host June Stoyer, The Organic Guru, has been getting an earful from us all week and is super excited about tomorrow’s show where she will interview me and Tara about GMOs, labeling and how to advocate for the bill’s passage. June will announce how to post a question on Facebook or Twitter during the show. Here is the call in number (917) 932-1068. We’d love for you to join the conversation and also use the show as the means to educate your friends and networks who don’t know much about the topic, but want to learn more.
