If you’re not at the beach or pool Saturday, July 7, between 1 and 4 pm, stop in Harry’s Wine & Liquor in Fairfield for a special Food Network/Wente Vineyards tasting event. Executive Chef of the Food Network, Rob Bleifer, will be on hand during the tasting of Wente’s Entwine label wines. This line of Pinot Grigio, Merlot, Chardonnay, and Cabernet Sauvignon blends were produced in partnership with the Food Network to make wine more accessible to their viewers.
What makes this event a destination is not only their awards (American Winery of the Year and a Rising Start Award 2011 from Wine Enthusiast), but also their history and dedication to sustainability. They own the 3,000 acres of sustainably farmed vineyards where their wine grapes are grown, so all their wines are estate grown. The website states that they’re the oldest continually operating family winery the US, dating back 125 years. My first though was “What about prohibition?” I can’t wait to ask that question! Maybe they made apple cider during those years?
