My Farm Share Offers Organic Winter CSAs to S. Fairfield County

By Analiese Paik

If you live in Westchester, Greenwich or Stamford, New Canaan, Darien or Norwalk you can participate in an organic CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) this fall and winter, with delivery from the farm right to your doorstep. For the past six years, Farm Share Ltd. (www.myfarmshare.com) has been delivering CSA shares of freshly harvested organic crops from a small family farm in New York state to hundreds of area homes, helping people eat better and allowing the farmers to do what they do best: farm!

This year they are offering an extended winter share that will run from the end of November through May with 9 deliveries total (one box every three weeks, total cost $600), as well as a 5-delivery winter share for $375 (same November to May deliveries). Expect your shares to include root vegetables and squash for roasting or adding to soups, stews, and braises. Eggs, honey, butter and preserved foods including jams, tomatoes, and pickles round out the shares.
This is a sample My Farm Share winter box from last February:
  • Small Evans Yogurt
  • Fingerling Potatoes
  • Hakurie Turnips
  • Carrots
  • Rutabaga
  • Parsnip
  • Red Jerusalem Artichokes
  • Garlic
  • Beets
  • Kabocha W. Squash Puree
  • Granola 8 oz
  • 1/2 dz eggs
  • 1 Farm-made item (pickles, jam, dried tomatoes or tomato sauce)
  • Evans Creamery Butter

Please visit the website at www.myfarmshare.com to download an enrollment form and read more about each CSA option.

Your sample winter box share with all those goodies sounds great! And the option of including honey, jams and pickles is really nice, too. Here, in Toronto, I get my box with organic CSA produce every week filled with seasonal veggies and fruits as well as eggs and dairy from local farmers. It lands in front of my door along with some recipes of the week offering some simple and tasty options for using the produce in the kitchen.
