Professional Workshop with Olive Oil Tasting Expert Arden Kremer

By Analiese Paik

At Olivette, you taste before you buy olive oil from gleaming stainless steel drums (fusti) lining the walls and counters. Each fusti is labeled in detail to provide tasters with the varietal, country of origin, date of crush, awards received and chemical analysis.

Please join Olivette and the Fairfield Green Food Guide for an evening of sensory exploration with one of the foremost olive oil tasting experts in the US, Arden Kremer. During this two-hour workshop you will learn to taste and analyze extra virgin olive oils from around the world just as the experts on professional olive oil taste panels do.

Arden Kremer, a member of the California Olive Oil Council Taste Panel, the U.C. Davis Taste Panel, and the U.C. Cooperative Extension Olive Oil Research Panel, will lead us through a professional tasting of 4 extra virgin olive oils from Olivette along with 2 ringers (just to keep you on your toes). Learn the language used to assess olive oil traits, both positive and negative, as we sniff and slurp our way through the evening. In addition to an invaluable education in olive oil tasting, each guest will receive professional tasting guidelines, tasting sheets, a gift-sized bottle of olive oil and coupons for shopping at Olivette. We  Are Pleased to Welcome Nationally Recognized Olive Oil Tasting Expert Arden Kremer to Fairfield County

Nationally recognized olive oil tasting expert Arden Kremer in her organic olive orchard in California.

Arden Kremer has been tasting olive oil since 1997 when she participated in a three-day U.C. Davis Extension class in the Sensory Evaluation of Olive Oil.  Having scored extremely well on sensory tests, she trained for several years and became a member of the first olive oil taste panel in the United States.

In 2005, Arden went to Imperia, Italy, for a weeklong seminar at the University of Imperia run by the O.N.A.O.O. (Organizzazione Nazionale Assaggiatori Olio di Oliva), which trained her to become a taste panel leader.

At present, Arden serves on three olive oil taste panels:  the first-in-the-nation California Olive Oil Council Taste Panel, the recently-formed U.C. Davis Taste Panel, and the U.C. Cooperative Extension Olive Oil Research Panel headed by Paul Vossen.  She also serves as a judge for numerous olive oil competitions.

Arden and her husband Philip Coturri own Enterprise Vineyards, Inc. a vineyard management business specializing in organic and biodynamic viticulture.  In 1995 they imported 10,000 olive trees from Tuscany and have been producing oil under the Sixteen 600 label since 2001.
