The Hickories Farm Offers Organic CSA for 8th Year

In early August, The Hickories' Farm Stand yielded beets, carrots, lettuces, garlic, broccoli, potatoes, and tomatoes. The peaches were for CSA shareholders only but there were frozen chickens available for anyone to purchase.

Calling all localvores! If you are interested in buying fresh, organic produce grown right in Ridgefield, you can now purchase a CSA share from The Hickories Farm and receive a selection of over 100 varieties of organically grown fruits and vegetables each week, from June thru the end of September.  Your share of the bounty is harvested each morning by farmers excited to meet and talk with you.  Designated pickup days (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) are right on the farm, giving you the opportunity to visit the fields, farmers and animal friends.

A share is designed to provide a family of 3 or 4 with all of their weekly vegetable and fruit needs.  Items vary seasonally, beginning with cool weather crops in the spring and  changing over to warm weather crops in the summer. The Hickories’ CSA members reap the benefits of larger shares with bumper crops.  Shareholders are their top priority.

The Hickories is an organic farm in Ridgefield, CT that has been in the Brewster Family for 76 years. The farm provides vegetables, fruits, flowers, wool, meat, and other farm products for the community and surrounding area through their CSA and Farmstand as well as local markets and restaurants.  The farm’s fruits and vegetables are certified organic under the Bay State Organic/ USDA National Organic Program, meaning they are free of synthetic pesticides and synthetic fertilizer. Our chickens, pigs, and sheep are free-range and are raised on the farm’s organic pastures.

CSA members will have access to additional “add-on” shares, which will include dairy products, baked goods, and cheeses from local farms.

The CSA season will begin in early June and, weather permitting, extend through the end of September. The cost of a share for the full 2013 season is $625.  Fall extension shares are also available to feed you and your family well into November.

Members will receive weekly CSA newsletters with recipes, farm updates and invitations to farm events. CSA members are also invited to take part in a “Pick Your Own” component, allowing you to go to into the fields to harvest your own blueberries, cherry tomatoes, flower bouquets, etc.

To purchase a share, simply register on the website at and visit their online store.  Then, click on “CSA Shares and Add Ons”.  You must order your share through the store to join the program (and include you in the CSA newsletter updates) so be sure to complete the check out process.  For payment, please send a check payable to The Hickories to 136 Lounsbury Road Ridgefield, CT 06877.  If you have any questions or concerns, contact the farm at 203-894-1851 or at

The Hickories’ road side stand is open 10am to 5pm, Friday to Sunday only, during the winter. It will be open for business 7 days a week from 11 – 6 come spring.  Farm-raised meat is available year round at the farm stand.  If you simply can’t wait for the season to begin, be sure to stop by the Farm Store where you can get a taste of last year’s harvest bottled in their pasta sauces, salsa and preserves.
