Stoneledge Farm’s Certified Organic CSA has drop/pick up locations in Stamford, Wilton/Norwalk, and Southport for the Summer 2013 season. The shares from this family-owned, 90 acre, NOFA-NY certified organic farm located in South Cairo, New York are varied and generous. The abundance taught me to use more herbs in my cooking and to make sauces in quantity to freeze for another day. Please note that this CSA has a 1.5 hour, on-site volunteer commitment for each CSA subscriber twice during the season to help with set up, distribution and clean up.
If you don’t pick your own fruit during the summer, I suggest signing up for a fruit share too. The 20-week fruit share starts on week 5 of the vegetable CSA. The plums, cherries and other tree fruit were gorgeous and I saw varieties that were new to me. The farm also offers an organic Fair Trade coffee which you sign up for in 6 week increments and pick up along with your CSA share. The Stoneledge vegetable CSA has a volunteer commitment of 2 times during the season for a total of 3 hours during which you will help open and close at the pick up site.
Stamford pick up is at Zion Lutheran Church, 132 Glenbrook Road on Wednesdays, from 4:30 to 6:30 pm. Visit the site for a complete description of the program or just keep reading below.
Wilton/Norwalk pick up is at School Sisters of Notre Dame, 345 Belden Hill Road, Wilton on Wednesdays, from 4:15 – 6:30 pm.
Southport/Fairfield pick up is at St. Paul’s Church, 661 Old Post Road, on Wednesdays, from 4:30-6:30 pm.
New York locations are also open to registration. Click here for additional pick up site locations.
The cost is $509 for 24 weeks, June through November. Fruit shares are available to vegetable share members for $235 and run for 20 weeks, beginning the second week of June. Berries are grown at Stoneledge Farm and orchard fruit is grown by Stoneledge Farm’s neighbors, who take a light approach in protecting their crops. Coffee and mushroom shares are also available as add ons.
Visit their website to register online by credit card or check. An installment payment plan is available for your convenience. Click here to sign up online. The farmer keeps members very involved, emailing about crop yields and what’s included in the current week’s share. Every week at least one or two herbs are included in the share. Any unclaimed shares will be donated to programs including Operation Hope and the Connecticut Food Bank. Visit the web site to learn more, register for a share, or join the waiting list if you get closed out.
Stoneledge also offers a market place online store offering fair trade coffee, honey, maple syrup, salsa, pasta sauce, and jams. Order weekly for pick up with your CSA share.
