Organic Hot Chocolate Spots

by April Guilbault

Williams-Sonoma's porcelain chocolate pot paired with a few bars of organic chocolate make a thoughtful holiday gift.

Winter is just days away from being officially upon us, but in looking out the window, we know that for all intents and purposes, it is here! The furry boots are parked by the front door, mittens and hats have been brought down out of the attic and the world is now blanketed in a lovely candy-coating of white. And of course, when snow is swirling in the air and snowmen are being made, hot chocolate is a must-have!

Ah yes…creamy, dreamy, belly-warming hot chocolate. As with coffees and juices, organic versions are gaining a following, but cafes serving them are rare. Many cafes may use organic milk and cream, but finding those that use organic chocolate is more of a hunt. Thankfully, we have found five area cafes and bakeries that serve organic hot chocolate made with all organic ingredients (milk and chocolate and even some syrups) so you can warm your belly in good conscience and health while on the road.

Cafes serving organic hot chocolate:

Ross’ Bread

The Marketplace at Copps Hill Common

109 Danbury Road, Ridgefield

Le Pain Quotidien (3 locations)

81 Elm Street, New Canaan

711 Canal Street #140R, Stamford

382 Greenwich Avenue, Greenwich, CT 06830

OR, if you want to make your own on cold and snowy days, Williams-Sonoma sells wonderful Hot Chocolate pots with frothers inside the porcelain pot, making for an extra creamy drink. And psst…it’s even on sale right now online! Simply get ahold of some of your favorite organic chocolate (Lake Champlain, Theo, Newman’s), shave it into the pot filled with organic (heated) milk, and froth away! The Williams-Sonoma chocolate pot paired with a bar or two of organic chocolate would make a great gift.

Happy Snow-Days, everyone!
