The Lachat Oversight Committee is pleased to announce the Ground Breaking and Raised Bed Building event, which will take place this Saturday, May 3rd, from 10:00am to 4:00pm at 106 Godfrey Road West in Weston. (Rain date: May 4th)
The Weston Sustainability Committee will be committing considerable effort to providing support to The Lachat Town Farm at the Juliana Lachat Preserve. One example includes participation in the Weston High School Internship Program. This year, five seniors have signed up to be a part of this historic endeavor!
The Lachat Oversight Committee has been working on plans for the farm for over eighteen months. The group has started with the restoration of the 1770 Lachat Farmhouse where a farm manager will reside. Now on the CT State Register of Historic Places, the Lachat Farmhouse recently received a $15,000 grant from the 1772 Foundation for roof and chimney repairs. Next spring, the farm will be prepared to offer CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) subscriptions for seasonal vegetables. This year, a Community Garden will offer plots for lease to town residents.
We invite you will participate in this wonderful ground-breaking and raised bed building event! It’s going to be fun. (Small children will not be allowed, due to safety issues.)
