2014 Guide to Farm Dinners
By Analiese Paik
Farm dinners are all the rage, and with good reason. They provide guests with a unique opportunity to feast on multi-course meals right at the source, outdoors, with a community of likeminded people. Many dinners include a farm tour led by the farmer, a great way to learn the story of the family growing your food that evening. Grab a few friends and set a date to spend a magical evening together at a local farm. Tickets go fast so please reserve your seats early.
Note: This guide will be updated throughout the season. Chefs and farms can send event announcement to firstname.lastname@example.org to be included.
Listings are in date order. Added 6/30: Elm Farm Feasts at Millstone Farm.

Dinners at the Farm (organic)
Barberry Hill Farm in Madison CT, and White Gate Farm in East Lyme, CT
Back in 2007 Jonathan Rapp, chef/owner of River Tavern in Chester, and Drew McLachlan, then chef/owner of Feast Gourmet Market in Deep River, recognized the vast, untapped potential of reconnecting people with their food and the land. The two entrepreneurs partnered to establish Dinners at the Farm, a series of plein air, farm-to-table, community dinners held on select Connecticut farms every July and August for the last 5 years.
The perennially sold out events are powerful fundraisers for the very organizations working to preserve farmland and create a more equitable food system – Working Lands Alliance, CitySeed, The New Connecticut Farmers Alliance, Region 4 Schools and Connecticut Farmland Trust. They’re also a mecca for local food lovers in search of a unique, seasonal meal enjoyed at the source.
For 2014, Dinners at the Farm will be held at two Connecticut farms: Barberry Hill Farm in Madison (organic) and White Gate Farm in East Lyme (organic). Tickets start at $100 per person and the event begins at 6 pm with a cocktail and farm tour with dinner seating at 7 pm, community table style.
Grassroots Harvest Dinner at Wakeman Town Farm, Westport
