The Westport Farmers Market returns to the Imperial Avenue location beginning May 21 with many of last year’s vendors and a few new ones, including my favorite source for authentic EVOO and balsamic vinegars, Olivette. Be sure to say hi to Alina Lawrence, the owner and general manager, and ask her to give you a tasting and tips on selecting quality olive oil. I love to use them to dress spring and summer salads and drizzle on heirloom tomatoes in August. They make an excellent addition to vegetable soups; try them with zucchinis for a velvety consistency.
This market is always hopping, rain or shine, and is one of the most compelling reasons to head out to shop between 10 am and 2 pm on a Thursday in Westport. Make a date with a friend and enjoy lunch or a morning snack and coffee en plein air. Shop first though, before the choicest foods are gone.
