Chef Demos Provide Inspiration at the Westport Farmer’s Market

It’s easy to fall into a veggie rut, making the same ten recipes over and over again.  I’m guilty of defaulting to a quick saute in garlic and olive oil myself. Inspiration awaits at the weekly chef demos at the Westport Farmers’ market where top local chefs demonstrate how they use produce from market vendors to create a fantastic appetizer, salad, soup or side dish.

Chef demos will be held from 10:15 to 11:00 a.m. at the market. If you’re looking for new ways to use locally produced, seasonal ingredients found at the market to prepare fresh, easy meals for your family, make it a point to arrive early and grab a seat.

Exactly what each chef will demo is unannounced since it all depends on what’s coming out of the fields that week. Recipes and tastings are included in each event listed below.

The season kicked off with the Staples High School Culinary team led by Chef Cecily Gans. Sugar & Olives “ramped” up the demo with their pickled ramp recipe and tutorial, followed by a lesson in how to properly harvest ramps.
