Tomato Tasting to Benefit Fairfield’s Seed to Seed Library

tomato tastingA Tomato Tasting will be held on Saturday, September 5th, from 10am until noon at the Greenfield Hill Grange #133 at 1873 Hillside Road in Fairfield. The admission fee this year is a suggested donation of $10 and all net proceeds will benefit the Fairfield Woods Seed to Seed Library.

Tomato lovers are invited to try different tomato varieties and determine which new variety they might want to try growing next year. This is also a great time to talk to other gardeners and share knowledge. Each attendee will receive 5 tickets to vote for their favorite tomatoes and winners will be announced for best tasting large heirloom, large hybrid, small heirloom and small hybrid. At 11 am, master gardener Eric Frisk will talk about the Fairfield Woods Seed to Seed Library and demonstrate saving seeds from tomatoes.

If you are bringing tomatoes to be tasted, please have an index card listing each variety with a brief description and arrive 30-45 minutes early to set up your plates. Paper plates and toothpicks will be provided for the tasting and some mozzarella, basil and bread will be available. Plan to bring at least one whole tomato for viewing and tomatoes for dicing and tasting. Last year at Fairfield Woods Library over 30 people  attended, so please plan for 30-40 attendees.
