CTNOFA’s Organic Harvest Jamboree
at Waldingfield Farm in Washington, CT
Sunday, October 4
from 1:00-4:00 pm
The Northeast Organic Farming Association of Connecticut (CT NOFA) will be holding their Organic Harvest Jamboree at Waldingfield Farm, one of the largest organic vegetable farms in the state. Located high in the rolling Litchfield Hills, Waldingfield Farm will open its gates to the public for a chance to explore the historic farmstead, sample freshly picked vegetables, and enjoy scenic views of the leaves changing color.
Organic Harvest Jamboree-goers will feast on a ‘farm-to-festival’ lunch prepared by Chef Meg Fama, owner of The Farm Belly food truck. Her specialty is creating seasonal meals from meat, dairy and produced sourced from Connecticut farms.
In preparation for the Jamboree, Chef Fama is keeping an eye on what is ripening in the fields over the next few weeks. While nearly all of the ingredients for this event will come from Waldingfield Farm, Ms. Fama will also source from other organic farms including George Hall Farm and Gentle Giant Farm.
When asked what to expect on the menu that day, she envisions roasted corn and honey bread, macaroni and cheese, pesto eggplant, roasted beet salad, along with maple apple crisp and a caramelized pumpkin bread pudding for dessert.
In addition to the local meal, foodies and families can enjoy live bluegrass by Wires & Wood and Five in the Chamber, tour the farm with farmer Patrick Horan, meet farm animals from the Eco Farm on Wheels, take pony rides, get faces painted, and play farm-themed games. Adults may also opt for food preservation classes, tour the veggie fields, or try to win big in the tea cup raffle.
Advance tickets are highly recommended. All proceeds will benefit CT NOFA. Farm attire is recommended; blankets and BYOB are welcome.
Admission includes farm-to-plate lunch and beverages, farm tours, animal rides, music, games and more! Kids 12 and under are FREE! Admission for students, farmers and those under 21 is $20. Adult tickets are $35 when paid in advance or $40 at the gate. Purchase tickets online or call the office at 203-308-2584. Visit the website for directions, more information and to purchase tickets.
