had planned to go apple picking with my family at High Hill Orchard in Meriden, Connecticut for a few weeks, and finally headed up on an overcast and lightly rainy Saturday. Picking apples is one of the fall family outings we most look forward to and this year we agreed to travel an hour for the most eco-friendly pick-your-own apples available in the state.
Teacher assignments, open houses, orientations, school supply lists – it’s all suddenly upon us. So are the last crops we’ll harvest before putting our gardens to bed for the winter. Make the most of the last fleeting weeks of summer by doing a few special, and memorable, green food activities before summer’s end. Here’s to building our fortitude to make it through another New England winter.
Update August 14, 2011: There are no more berries at this location. They have been picked clean. Head to Jones Family Farms and Bishop’s Orchards instead. If there’s anything possibly better than strawberry picking, it has to be blueberry picking. … Read more
