Carissa Hvizdo of The Stand is generously sharing her wisdom with the public at a Zero Waste Cooking Demo on Wednesday, October 28, from 7:00-8:30 pm at their Fairfield location on Mill Plain Road in the Sportsplex. Carissa is both a farmer and restaurateur/chef, making her uniquely qualified to attack food waste from multiple angles.

Slow Food Celebrates Long Island Oysters with Tour and Tasting

Connecticut’s own farmer of the coveted Copps Island Oyster, and Slow Food Shoreline will host a celebration of the Long Island Oyster, highlighting the rich history of oyster farming on the Long Island Sound and learning about traditional oyster farming methods. The event will be held Saturday, October 3rd 2015 at Norm Bloom and Son’s waterfront facility in Norwalk, Connecticut from 12:00 noon until 4:00 pm.

Restaurants Invited to Join CT Farm to Chef Week 2015

CT Farm to Chef Week 2015, The CT Dept. of Agriculture’s annual celebration of CT Grown, is scheduled for September 13-19. Restaurants, cafes, caterers, cafeterias, food trucks, bakeries, and other dining establishments are invited to register to participate in this event and partner with Connecticut farms to showcase Connecticut Grown foods on their menus.

Farm dinners remain so popular that the summer 2015 season is seeing a reprise of many of last year’s events. Whether you’re planning a night out with your significant other, a friend, or a large group, reserve your seat right away because tickets go fast. The Millstone Farm “Farm to Fork” Series is already sold out and just a handful of tickets remain for Outstanding in the Field dinners at The Hickories and Waldingfield Farm.

Each spring Millstone Farm offers a variety of workshops to help educate and empower us to grow and preserve our own food and learn homesteading skills like beekeeping and chicken keeping. This spring mushroom growing, raising chickens, and beekeeping for beginners are schedule for May. If you are interested, I encourage you to sign up soon before they fill up.
