Westport Farmers’ Market Raises the Bar

I’m dreaming of early sweet strawberries, pungent spring garlic, crispy French breakfast radishes, and thick heads of just-picked lettuce, spinach, and arugula. This Thursday my dreams will materialize before my eyes as I head to opening day at the Westport Farmers’ Market. Some big changes are in store for shoppers this year, most notably the market’s commitment to becoming GMO-Free.

Working to become GMO-free will surely be a tough row to hoe, but Market Master Lori Cochran seemed undeterred. “We’re taking baby steps, but we’ll be able to do it.”

Westport Farmers’ Market First in County to Feature GMO-Free Vendors

Westport Farmers’ Market is once again on the cutting edge of consumer demand with their commitment to make the market GMO-free. Market Master Lori Cochran announced this goal at the Don’t be Fooled by GMOs event held at the Westport Inn on Sunday, April 1. Organic farmer Bob Burns of Aiki Farms in Ledyard brought a few GMO-free signs to the event for Lori and one was prominently displayed at the market’s exhibitor space as a signal of their commitment.
